Lung Cancer Treatment
Thoracic Oncology at Jupiter Medical Center
Lung cancer, in its various forms, will affect the lives of an estimated 92,000 men and 81,000 women this year. Surprisingly, lung cancer affects the lives of more women than breast and gynecological cancers.
While these numbers may be staggering, Jupiter Medical Center is working to put a stop to these statistics and provide greater hope for our patients. New techniques and technology are continuously being developed and refined, resulting in better outcomes for thoracic surgery and greater rates of early detection which improves survival. We offer all of this plus individualized treatment plans, and comprehensive emotional support.
Among the strategies we employ to catch and treat lung cancer are:
- Advanced Screening: Jupiter Medical Center is designated a Lung Cancer Screening Center by the American College of Radiology and recognized as a Screening Center of Excellence by the Lung Cancer Alliance. Patients concerned about or at risk for lung cancer have access to a quick, painless and non-invasive approach to screening.
- Lung Nodule Clinic: In the case of any findings on CT lung scans, patients are referred to our Lung Nodule Clinic where they receive accurate evaluation and rapid intervention for the best possible outcome.
- Groundbreaking Diagnostic Technology: Abnormal findings in the lungs often require further testing. Jupiter Medical Center offers the most advanced, minimally invasive diagnostic procedures, including navigational bronchoscopy, which uses electromagnetic navigation to find and evaluate a lesion. We also use endobronchial ultrasound to "see" through lung tissue and test for conditions, including lung cancer.
- Minimally Invasive Surgery: Our experienced thoracic surgery team is equipped with the most advanced robotic-assisted surgical system, the da Vinci® Xi™, and video-assisted technology designed for minimal trauma and maximum precision in surgery.
- CyberKnife: Jupiter Medical Center was the first in Florida to offer the revolutionary technology of the CyberKnife® M6™ System. Cyberknife offers an option for patients who have inoperable tumors. The CyberKnife M6 System allows physicians to offer certain patients an innovative, non-invasive alternative to conventional surgery and weeks of radiation to remove both cancerous and non-cancerous tumors from the body.
Our dedicated thoracic team works to ensure coordination of care for patients who enjoy the benefit of complex therapies in a community hospital setting.
